In a display of callousness that has drawn sharp criticism, U.S. President Donald Trump mocked the assassination of high-ranking Iranian military leaders during an Israeli military operation. When asked by CNN reporter Dana Bash about the deaths, Trump responded sarcastically, “They didn’t die of the flu or COVID,” trivializing the gravity of the killings.

Trump openly praised the Israeli attacks as “very successful” and reiterated his unwavering support for Israel, claiming, “We support Israel like nobody has ever supported them before.”

He warned Iran to accept a nuclear deal, emphasizing that he had given Tehran a 60-day ultimatum, which had expired just as the strikes occurred.

On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump issued a stark warning to Iran: “There has already been great death and destruction, but there is still time to make this slaughter come to an end.” He added that the next planned attacks would be “even more brutal” if Iran failed to negotiate.

The Israeli offensive targeted over 100 Iranian sites, including nuclear facilities and military command centers. Among those killed were Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces; Hossein Salami, Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps; and Gholam Ali Rashid, commander of the Khatam al-Anbia headquarters, along with several nuclear scientists.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei condemned the strikes as a “crime” by “satanic, bloodstained hands” and vowed severe retaliation. The Iranian government labeled the Israeli operation a “declaration of war,” signaling a dangerous escalation in the region.

While Secretary of State Marco Rubio denied direct U.S. involvement in the Israeli strikes, reports indicate Washington is supporting Israel’s defense against Iranian counterattacks. Trump’s remarks underscore the U.S. administration’s complicity and alignment with Israeli military objectives, further destabilizing the Middle East.

Trump’s mocking tone and aggressive posture represent imperialist arrogance that exacerbates conflict and undermines prospects for peace.
